SUMMARY:Introduction to iNaturalist with Amanda Wanlass of Indiana Phenology
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the final Golden Hour of 2026 at Oliver’s Woods. In September\, we invite you to join us for a hands-on introduction to iNaturalist\, a free online platform for citizen scientists to document their own observations of nature around them. We will be led through our presentation and a special nature scavenger hunt by Indiana Phenology’s Executive Director\, Amanda Wanlass. \nEvent Highlights: \n\nOur presentation will begin inside the Daugherty House.\nWe will have an outdoor scavenger hunt\, weather permitting.\nLearn how to use the iNaturalist app and website.\nLearn how you can help observe and document nature near you.\n\nDetails: \n\nAges: All are welcome.\nRSVP: Required for attendees over age 2. Limited to 25 people.\nTickets: Maximum 4 per RSVP. Reserve your spot here.\nOnce our RSVP limit is reached the form will close. If you are interested in being added to our wait list please reach out to sfox@conservingindiana.org.\n\nWhat to Expect: \n\nWe will start the presentation inside of the Daugherty House and venture outside for a  nature scavenger hunt.\nPark in the lot adjacent to I-465 and follow the trail to the discussion circle.\nTrails are unpaved but fairly level.\nAccessible parking is available by the Daugherty House\, with access to a crushed gravel trail.\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nDress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes suitable for mud.\nBring your phone or device as we will use the iNaturalist app/website during our scavenger hunt.\nOptional: Bring sun and insect protection\, and a water bottle.\n\nAbout Amanda: \nAmanda is the founder and Executive Director of Indiana Phenology\, a nonprofit focused on citizen science and environmental education. She helps Hoosiers become better observers of the natural world by documenting seasonal changes and contributing their observations to science so that we can better understand Indiana’s changing environment. She has a master’s degree in Environmental Science from Indiana University and is on the staff of Butler University’s Friesner Herbarium. \nLocation: Oliver’s Woods\, 8825 River Road\, Indianapolis\, Indiana.

SUMMARY:Monarch Butterfly Tagging Event
DESCRIPTION:Join CILTI staff and Indiana Wildlife Federation for a hands-on community science event at Betley Woods at Glacier’s End to help document the monarchs’ fall migration. \nThe Monarch Watch Tagging Program is a large-scale community science project that was initiated in 1992 to help understand the dynamics of the monarch’s spectacular fall migration through mark and recapture. \nAt this event\, staff will train attendees to gently capture monarch butterflies in butterfly nets and affix a small numbered sticker to the hindwing. The international monarch monitoring program called Monarch Watch provides stickers and datasheets for this project. \nThis event is brought to you in partnership with Indiana Wildlife Federation. \nAll Ages are Welcome to Attend \nDetails: \n\nAges: All are welcome.\nRSVP: Required for attendees over age 2. Limited to 25 people.\n\nWhat to Expect and Bring: \n\n\nDress in long pants thick enough to stand up to thorns\, brush\, poison ivy\, ticks\, and mosquitos. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Some tagging may take place off trail.\nWear closed-toed shoes.\nPublic restrooms not available.\nIn case of inclement weather\, check email for updates.

SUMMARY:Nonie Werbe Krauss Nature Preserve Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Help us clear debris deposited in the Nonie Werbe Krauss Nature Preserve after the historic 2026 flooding.  Nonie Werbe Krauss Nature Preserve took in an estimated 150 million gallons of floodwater during the recent flooding event. With that water came household debris and other items that have stayed on the preserve after the floodwaters receded\, and need to be removed to preserve the plant and animal life. \nWhat to Expect and Bring \n\nBe prepared to get dirty and in some cases wet.\nPuncture-resistant leather work gloves are encouraged.\nDress in long pants.\nWear closed-toed shoes and long socks that can stand up to mud and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Waterproof rubber boots are encouraged.\n\nRSVP is required as we can only handle a certain number of volunteers.  Once we reach that number\, we will place RSVPs on a wait list. \nThe Fishers Parks Department has graciously provided Personal Protective Equipment for participants to ensure safety as there may be household chemical containers on site. \n
