Coauthor and botanist Michael Homoya will lead a walk through the woods to look for the spring wildflowers\, insects and birds showcased in the book. He will also read from the book’s rhyming verse\, sharing how the forest wakes up each spring. Families with children will enjoy this outing based on the award-winning picture book Wake up\, Woods. Coauthor and botanist Michael Homoya will lead a walk through the woods to look for the spring wildflowers\, insects and birds showcased in the book. He will also read from the book’s rhyming verse\, sharing how the forest wakes up each spring. DESCRIPTION:Help us welcome back native plants and wildlife by pulling invasive garlic mustard at Meltzer Woods Nature Preserve.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nAll Ages \nWhat to Expect and Bring \n• Volunteers will remove by hand the plants and roots. \n• Dress in long pants thick enough to stand up to thorns\, brush\, poison ivy\, ticks\, and mosquitos (unfortunately leggings aren’t very protective). \n• Wear closed-toed shoes that can stand up to mud. \n• Bring gardening or work gloves. If you don’t have gloves\, we will provide some. \n• Face mask/cover required. \n• Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. \n• Dress for the weather as we will work rain or shine. \nDirections \nMeltzer Woods is located near Shelbyville and is a short 35 minute drive from Indianapolis. From Indianapolis\, take I74 E to IN 244 E\, then turn left onto S 600 East. Staff will meet you in the parking lot. \nCOVID Safety Note: \nSafety is our first priority\, and we continue to monitor pandemic conditions as we host events.
