DESCRIPTION:Help us welcome back native plants and wildlife by removing invasive garlic mustard from Meltzer Woods. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupport the health and resilience of the old growth forest by helping with invasive plant removal. Meltzer Woods is a National Natural Landmark and one of our most beloved preserves. \nAll Ages \nPlease RSVP so we know to expect you. \nWhat to Expect and Bring: \n\n\n\nVolunteers will remove plants by hand.\nDress in long pants thick enough to stand up to thorns\, brush\, poison ivy\, ticks\, and mosquitos. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.\nWear closed-toed shoes that can stand up to mud.\nAthletic shoes may be too slippery on the duckboards.\nBring gardening or work gloves. If you don’t have gloves\, we will provide some.\nDress for the weather as we will work rain or shine.\nPublic restrooms not available.\nIn case of inclement weather\, check email for updates.\n\nDirections: \nMeltzer Woods is located near Shelbyville and is a short 35-minute drive from Indianapolis. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Golden Hour Summer Series at Oliver’s Woods. In May\, we’ll discover the hidden world of native bees with Central Indiana Land Trust staff member Max Gerke. These tiny but vital creatures are all around us—even in our own back yards! \nEvent Highlights: \n\nStart at the discussion circle with a preview of bee specimens and a quick guide on what to look for.\nTake a short walk through Oliver’s Woods to observe native bees pollinating flowers in action.\nMeet some common native bees.\nLearn about bees’ lifecycles and how you can support them.\n\nBy the end\, you’ll bee buzzing with excitement about the tiny pollinators in your yard and local natural areas! \nDetails: \n\nAges: All are welcome.\nRSVP: Required for attendees over age 2. Limited to 25 people.\nTickets: Maximum 4 per RSVP. Reserve your spot here.\n\nWhat to Expect: \n\nThe program begins at the discussion circle\, followed by a walk through the wooded preserve\, before returning to the discussion circle.\nIn case of inclement weather\, the presentation will take place inside the Daugherty House.\nPark in the lot adjacent to I-465 and follow the trail to the discussion circle.\nTrails are unpaved but fairly level.\nAccessible parking is available by the Daugherty House\, with access to a crushed gravel trail.\nThere are no public restrooms on site.\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nDress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes suitable for mud.\nOptional: Bring sun and insect protection\, and a water bottle.\n\nAbout Max: \nMax is a pollinator enthusiast with a passion for Indiana’s native bees and their role in pollinating native flowers. As a stewardship specialist\, he conducts surveys on our properties to study bee diversity and identify rare species. He recently presented at the Indiana Wildlife Federation annual meeting on the impact of native pollinators. \nLocation: Oliver’s Woods\, 8825 River Road\, Indianapolis\, Indiana.
