Save Fern Station

Home > Fern Station

Fern Station is a gorgeous property that has long been on our wish list, but it is only now within reach because of the state’s Next Level Conservation Trust. This $25,000,000 program is bringing a 75% match to land conservation with no cap. This allows CILTI to think big!

In 2022, Next Level Conservation Trust pledged $3.1 million toward acquisition of Fern Station. To date, it is the largest conservation grant in Indiana history. This represents 75 percent of the purchase price of this stunning forested property. In addition to the opportunity to leverage state funds, we have a Challenge Grant for this project. The Efroymson Family Fund is matching dollar for dollar up to $500,000 to save Fern Station. Meeting this match would guarantee protection of this special place forever!

Fern Station is:

  • 570 ACRES OF UNBROKEN FOREST in Putnam County, near Fern Cliff Nature Preserve
  • KEY HABITAT for Eastern box turtle, red-shouldered hawk, and cerulean warbler, among other imperiled species
  • DOMINATED BY WHITE OAK, vital for watershed health, wildlife habitat, and carbon sequestration
