A Heart for Nature

In honor of Estate Planning Awareness Week, we are giving another shout-out to our Burr Oak Society members. These dedicated individuals have included the land trust in their estate plans. But Central Indiana Land Trust is not the true beneficiary. Indiana’s natural spaces are.

Burr Oak Society members share an unwavering commitment to land protection. Because of their foresight and generosity, we will be able to carry our mission into the future. Their passion for nature gives tomorrow’s children the chance to enjoy our cherished natural areas.

In recent years, we have seen some of these plans come to fruition, and we mourn the loss of each supporter and friend. It’s an honor to carry forth their legacy. Their gifts enable us to protect and restore thousands of acres of nature…forever.

One poignant example is John and Phyllis Holliday, who left CILTI our largest estate gift to date in 2019. Their daughter, Mary Holliday Rogers, told us how proud her parents would be to know their gift is preserving Central Indiana’s best natural areas. We continue to honor their wishes and strive to make the Holliday family proud.

If you have included the land trust in your estate plans and haven’t yet informed us, we encourage you to let us know. Doing so will allow us to thank you during your lifetime and ensure we honor your wishes.

This week and always, we are grateful to everyone whose passion for nature prompts them to join the Burr Oak Society!

Oct. 21 to 27, 2024 is National Estate Planning Awareness Week. It’s a week dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of putting estate plans in place. Including Central Indiana Land Trust in your will is a wonderful way to have a lasting legacy. If you have questions about including CILTI in your estate plans, please reach out to us. Your legacy will continue the vital work of conserving Indiana’s natural beauty.
