Wake Up To Spring At Oliver’s Woods

About this Event
Welcome springtime back to Central Indiana with this family-friendly event at Oliver’s Woods. Families with children will enjoy this outing based on the award-winning picture book Wake up, Woods. Coauthor and botanist Michael Homoya will lead a walk through the woods to look for the spring wildflowers, insects and birds showcased in the book. He will also read from the book’s rhyming verse, sharing how the forest wakes up each spring. Gather at the campfire circle to hear about our ephemeral flowers and their importance in the ecosystem.
All Ages
Free of Charge – RSVP Required
What to Expect
- Easy, 3/4 mile hike over flat terrain.
- Face mask/cover required.
- Dress in long pants thick enough to stand up to thorns, brush, poison ivy, ticks, and mosquitos (unfortunately leggings aren’t very protective).
- Wear closed-toed shoes that can stand up to mud.
- Springtime can be muddy, so wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Copies of the book are available to purchase as an add-on to this RSVP and we’ll have a limited quantity at the event. Cards with Gillian Harris’ illustrations will also be for sale at the event.
Directions
Oliver’s Woods is located at 8825 River Road Indianapolis, Indiana. Please park in the parking lot adjacent to I-465 and meet staff on foot in front of the house.
