Indiana lost a great champion of conservation last month when Philip Meltzer of Shelbyville died at age 94. Mr. Meltzer was the driving force behind the protection of one of the state’s last unprotected old growth forests—now a state-dedicated nature preserve.
Since it opened to the public in 2016, Meltzer Woods has enchanted nature-lovers of all ages. As the heart and soul of that awe-inspiring place, Mr. Meltzer will be remembered for his foresight and generosity.
