Join us for the final Golden Hour of 2026 at Oliver’s Woods. In September, we invite you to join us for a hands-on introduction to iNaturalist, a free online platform for citizen scientists to document their own observations of nature around them. We will be led through our presentation and a special nature scavenger hunt by Indiana Phenology’s Executive Director, Amanda Wanlass.
Event Highlights:
- Our presentation will begin inside the Daugherty House.
- We will have an outdoor scavenger hunt, weather permitting.
- Learn how to use the iNaturalist app and website.
- Learn how you can help observe and document nature near you.
Details:
- Ages: All are welcome.
- RSVP: Required for attendees over age 2. Limited to 25 people.
- Tickets: Maximum 4 per RSVP. Reserve your spot here.

What to Expect:
- We will start the presentation inside of the Daugherty House and venture outside for a nature scavenger hunt.
- Park in the lot adjacent to I-465 and follow the trail to the discussion circle.
- Trails are unpaved but fairly level.
- Accessible parking is available by the Daugherty House, with access to a crushed gravel trail.
What to Bring:
- Dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes suitable for mud.
- Bring your phone or device as we will use the iNaturalist app/website during our scavenger hunt.
- Optional: Bring sun and insect protection, and a water bottle.
About Amanda:
Amanda is the founder and Executive Director of Indiana Phenology, a nonprofit focused on citizen science and environmental education. She helps Hoosiers become better observers of the natural world by documenting seasonal changes and contributing their observations to science so that we can better understand Indiana’s changing environment. She has a master’s degree in Environmental Science from Indiana University and is on the staff of Butler University’s Friesner Herbarium.
